2019 HYUNDAI SANTA FE | 2019 SantaFe Interior Exterior and Drive The market has spoken, and crossover SUVs are the new family sedans. With massive growth in nearly every segment of the business and more and more models to compete against, designers have their knives out and are taking more chances to gain buyers' attention. The latest example? The 2019 Hyundai SantaFe, which has gone from last year's rounded and somewhat predictable (if pleasant) appearance, to this decidedly edgier, more piercing look. With its prominent cascade grille and unusual split, two-piece lighting (the main headlamps are the larger lower LED units), the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is no shrinking violet. That confidence carries over to the design's profile, where it has strong fender forms, a prominent character line...

2019 All New Hyundai Santafe TEST DRIVE & FEATURES If the teaser renderings revealed late last month suggested that Hyundai's next-generation Santa Fe would be a conservative reskin, they were misleading. These first official photos of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe crossover SUV show off a much more ambitious front end, a design that heavily echoes that of the company's recently unveiled Nexo fuel-cell vehicle. The fourth-generation Santa Fe appears somehow both beefier and higher tech, thanks in part to divided light clusters. Hyundai is calling these fixtures "twin headlights," and if the Nissan Juke and pre-facelift Jeep Cherokee are any indication, it's not entirely clear which units are the main beams and which are the daytime running lamps. Hyundai's forthcoming Kona small SUV also fea...

The new Hyundai Santa Fe just debuted in South Korea, and the automaker has already announced details for the U.S.-spec 2019 Santa Fe that will go on sale this summer. The midsize crossover will offer the usual naturally aspirated and turbocharged four-cylinder gas engines, but the biggest news is that we’ll be getting it with a diesel option. The lineup shuffling described in the press release is a bit confusing, but we gather that this model essentially replaces the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. That would explain the new Santa Fe’s tweener dimensions. Meanwhile, the current-generation long-wheelbase three-row Santa Fe will carry over renamed as the Santa Fe XL. This will act as a stopgap until Hyundai’s upcoming large eight-passenger crossover arrives. The automaker confirmed that model will...

The All-New 2019 Santa Fe Makes its United States Debut at the New York International Auto Show Bolder design language for Hyundai’s best-selling SUV in the United States New safety, comfort and convenience technologies Increased visibility, cabin and storage space Santa Fe Sport name dropped --A Bold New Look The face of the new Santa Fe is highlighted by Hyundai’s signature Cascading Grille and a Composite Light design comprising LED Daytime Running Lights positioned on top of the LED headlights. The exterior design is characterized by a powerful wide stance and an athletic body that makes a statement from 100 feet away. It’s a bold look that is enhanced by refined lines that reinforce the vehicle’s status in Hyundai’s SUV lineup. The profile of the Santa Fe features a dynamic character line that goes all the way from the headlights to the taillights and a larger daylight opening (DLO) with a satin surround that provides a sleek impression along with better visibility. Featured diamond-cut 19-inch wheels communicate strength, as does the car’s rear appearance, now featuring a muscular high and taut shape. --Interior Design: Graceful Surfaces Embrace Strong Structure The Santa Fe interior design combines premium quality with a roomy layout featuring a strong horizontal design theme and enhanced visibility. Premium touches such as the layered, three-dimensional instrument panel and contrasting seat stitching ensures a high level of luxury within the cabin. The Santa Fe’s larger DLO enhances the interior’s feeling of openness with generous amounts of natural light. --The driver will also see several improvements including: The audio/visual/navigation system screen has been tilted and positioned to reduce glare The window switches and grab handles have been moved forward for more elbow room The door map pockets have been reduced in size for more legroom Cup holders in the center console have been repositioned for ease of use and the height and length of the center armrest has also been increased --Comfortable Ride, Steering Feel and Stable Handling Improved ride comfort, handling and stability are achieved through key developments in the suspension geometry of the 2019 Santa Fe. The biggest change sees the rear shock moved upright from an angled position, improving the ride and handling no matter the driving conditions. An optional self-load-leveling suspension provides the Santa Fe with a continuous ride height even while towing or carrying heavier cargo. This system allows Hyundai engineers to tune the rear suspension for comfort and avoid making it too firm for occasional trailer use. Safety Features Hyundai’s Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCW) puts eyes and legs in the back of drivers’ heads. Using the Blind Spot Detection system’s radar sensors when backing up, the system can not only warn the driver if vehicles approach from the rear side, it also applies the brakes automatically. Additional safety features include Rear Occupant Alert, which Hyundai is debuting with the Santa Fe. The system monitors the rear seats using an ultrasonic sensor that helps to detect the movements of children and pets. The system first reminds drivers to check the rear seats when exiting the vehicle with a message on the center instrument cluster display. If the system detects movement in the rear seats after the driver leaves the vehicle and locks the doors it will honk the horn and send a Blue Link alert to the driver’s smartphone via Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car system. The system is designed to prevent children and pets from being forgotten in the car, but it also helps in case children accidentally lock themselves in. The 2019 Santa Fe also gets Hyundai’s first Safe Exit Assist. This feature temporarily prevents doors from being opened when a vehicle approaches from behind even when the doors are unlocked. Safe Exit Assist works even if the driver has used the button to turn off the child lock feature. When the Safe Exit Assist detects an approaching object rearward it sounds an alert for passengers, a warning pops up on the driver’s center cluster and, most importantly, the doors remain locked. Interior Space and Visibility Interior cabin space has been enhanced on the 2019 Santa Fe. Inside, there is now more cargo room behind the second-row seats, when second-row seats are folded. In addition to more cargo space, second-row leg room has also been lengthened to be best-in-class. The H-point distance between the first and second rows has also been increased and the floor has been lowered for even more second-row comfort. Engineers also have incorporated one-touch folding second-row seats. New Hyundai Santa Fe, first drive. Mainz, 10.07.12. The 2,2-litre diesel, 197 bhp(3800 revs) and 421 Nm of torque(1800-2500 revs), with one of the lowest CO2 emissions in the segment. 4WD and 6sp automatic gearbox. 7-seaters version. COMFORT Longer, lower and wider than its predecessor, with the same 2700 mm wheelbase, the New Generation Santa Fe has a stronger presence(L- 4690, W-1880,H-1680mm). Front- and second-row legroom have been increased -- by 38mm and 45mm respectively -- over the last-generation car, while a long, wide, single-frame panoramic sunroof allows high levels of natural light into the cabin. Luggage space in the trunk has been increased by 38mm in depth over the previous generation model, yielding a class-best luggage capacity of 534 litres with the front five seats upright. To improve comfort, the front seats are electronically powered and the driver's seat has a memory function to adapt to different drivers' preferred positions. The second row of seats slides. Optional- third-row seats An optional 220 Volt power socket can provide direct power to appliances including laptops, printers and vacuum cleaners. ENGINES Three powertrain options will be available to European buyers, including a new, super-efficient, Euro 6- compliant 2,0-litre 'R' VGT diesel engine. Producing 150 ps, 383 Nm, this powerplant emits just 159 g/km of CO2. The 2,2-litre diesel(on video) unit has been tuned for greater efficiency, making it the cleanest powertrain unit in the segment with CO2 emissions of only 147 g/km. This all-aluminium, powerplant generates 197 ps and 421 Nm of torque, with one of the lowest CO2 emissions in the segment. With this powerful engine, the new Santa Fe delivers strong performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 kph in 9,4 seconds (manual transmission, 2WD). The variable geometry turbocharger fitted to both diesel engines, New Generation Santa Fe offers 100% of torque from low revs -- from 1.800 to 2500 rpm. A 'Theta II' 2,4-litre GDI engine will offer European customers a gasoline alternative. Its maximum power of 192 ps and modest CO2 emissions of 202 g/km. TRANSMISSIONS New Generation Santa Fe is available with six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmissions. The 'Theta II' 2,4-litre GDI gasoline and 2,2-litre 'R' VGT diesel engine are available with either the manual or automatic transmission. The 2,0-litre 'R' VGT engine is fitted with the six-speed manual as standard. The automatic transmission features two operating modes -- fully automatic or 'Sport'. RUNNING GEAR Hyundai's FLEX STEER system is fitted to an SUV for the first time, providing three different settings for the steering to match customer preference and driving requirement. The selected mode -- normal, sport and comfort. The MacPherson strut front suspension uses reverse L-shaped lower arms for accurate camber control and steering sensitivity. The front subframe mounting bushes are calibrated to reduce unwanted vibrations, while preserving a confidence-inspiring connection with the road surface. Multi-link suspension is employed at the rear, with the trailing arm connected to a chassis cross-member to ensure optimum ride refinement without intruding on the trunk space. Self-leveling rear suspension is fitted as standard, preserving ride refinement and balanced handling even when carrying a full complement of passengers or a heavy cargo load. All-wheel-drive is delivered by an on-demand system which overrides the usual front-wheel-drive only when truly necessary. The default power distribution is 100% to the front wheels, with automatic and continuous variation in force when slippery conditions are encountered, providing up to 50% of power to the rear. For especially slippery conditions, such as muddy off-roading or driving on snow or ice, four-wheel-drive can be selected with the push of the 'lock' button, delivering a 50:50 power split at speeds up to 40 kph. Maximum towing capacity for a fully laden vehicle with a braked trailer is 2500 kg (manual transmission). SAFETY Active safety systems give Santa Fe drivers the best chance of avoiding an accident. These include ABS (anti-lock braking system), ESP (electronic stability programme), VSM (vehicle stability management), DBC (downhill brake control) and a hill-holder system. The headlights switch on automatically if conditions require them, and daytime running lights are fitted as standard. New Generation Santa Fe is fitted with seven airbags as standard, including driver, passenger, side, curtain and driver's knee units, providing exceptional levels of safety to buyers across the range.

That confidence carries over to the design's profile, where it has strong fender forms, a prominent character line than runs from nose to tail, and a windowline that tapers less dramatically than the third-generation model that precedes it. It's not a look that will be for everyone, but to my eyes, it looks unapologetically modern, assertive and surprisingly tech-forward. I like it.. Hyundai's forthcoming Kona small SUV also features a similar look, so perhaps this split-lamp look will become a touchstone of the company's crossover range. If I had to bet on it, they wouldn't be the slim, glowering upper units that nestle between the wing-shaped piece of brightwork and the hood's leading edge. Those are probably the DRLs. Whether it's because of the split lighting or the large and intricately detailed cascade grille, this new model's look is likely to be more polarizing than today's milquetoast Santa Fe. Dimensionally, the new Santa Fe spans 187.8 inches long and 74.4 inches wide. Somewhat confusingly, in terms of length, those dimensions split the difference between the third-generation Santa Fe three-row model and the two-row Santa Fe Sport currently on sale. Today's Santa Fe spans 193.1 inches long, and the smaller Sport is 185 inches long. It's therefore likely that the vehicle shown here will be a five-seater and be known as the Santa Fe Sport when it comes to market in the States. Regardless of which it is, the new model is also a smidge wider than today's existing Santa Fe family. Hyundai has also released a full dashboard shot of its new Santa Fe, and it looks like the image shows a high-end trim. Dominated by a large floating navigation screen flanked by physical switchgear including a pair of knobs, there's also what looks to be a large in-cluster display, and heating and cooling for the seats and steering wheel. Hyundai hasn't released much in the way of specifics about its new SUV's features, other than to reiterate that the model will feature a Rear Occupant Reminder system (designed to prevent accidentally forgetting children in the back). The new model will also be offered with a new Safe Exit Assist system that warns occupants if their about to open their doors into the path of oncoming traffic -- the tech can go so far as to lock the door momentarily to avoid an accident. Additionally, the Santa Fe will be the company's first model offered with Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Hyundai-speak for rear cross-traffic alert with auto brake. No word yet on driveline options for the US, but Hyundai's Korean-market website suggests that the SUV will receive a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas model, as well as pair of diesels that presumably won't be available in North America. The new Santa Fe will make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and it seems likely to make its North American debut at the New York Auto Show shortly thereafter. Based on the cadence of the company's teaser schedule, however, we wouldn't rule out seeing more information about this important new model before then. 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T AWD The interior is enhanced by the availability of new 7.0- and 8.0-inch touchscreens (a 5.0-inch screen is standard). Our top-of-the-line test vehicle had the 8.0-inch screen, which includes navigation and plays nice with Android Auto (but not Apple CarPlay). We’re happy to report that the touchscreen functions are augmented by traditional knobs and switches. Other new-for-2017 features include an available power height-adjustable passenger seat, an Infinity audio system, an upgrade of Hyundai’s Blue Link telematics, and a 360-degree camera system, one of multiple additions to the safety inventory. Other new safety features include a standard rearview camera and the availability of adaptive cruise control with pedestrian detection and automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive headlamps. These features, plus a solid structure, add up to top safety ratings—five stars from NHTSA and Top Safety Pick + from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Relaxed Sporty Handling is a surprisingly strong suit, thanks to better-than-average roll stiffness. Skidpad roadholding measures in at a so-so 0.75 g. The better than average electrically assisted power steering conveys at least some tactile information to the driver. The ride can get a little choppy over patchwork pavement and/or washboard dirt roads, but otherwise it is smooth. And the Santa Fe Sport is exceptionally quiet in most operating conditions. However, acceleration is tepid; the Santa Fe requires 7.6 seconds to get to 60 mph and finishes the quarter-mile in 15.9 seconds. This is far from face-distorting and makes an unflattering contrast with our test results of a 2015 model, which was a full second quicker to 60 mph and also quicker through the quarter-mile. Both test vehicles were similarly equipped, and both were a little pudgy at 4063 pounds for the current example and 4021 pounds for the 2015 model. But a 42-pound difference isn’t enough to account for the performance disparity. Chalk it up to the 2015 version of the 2.0-liter turbo, which cranked out 264 horsepower and 269 lb-ft versus 240 horsepower and 250 lb-ft for the 2017 engine that has been adopted as part of the refresh. The upside of the power reduction is a small EPA city fuel-economy uptick: 19 mpg, 1 mpg more than before. We averaged 22 mpg this time, versus 18 mpg for the 2015 version. Price and Value At $40,000 plus, the Santa Fe Sport may seem pricey—until you check the competition. Most of the players in this class top out even higher, and as is typical of Hyundai, the buy-in to the top-level model includes mass quantities of equipment: a power sunroof; power seats; leather for the seats, steering wheel, and shifter; an 8.0-inch touchscreen; Blue Link telematics; premium audio; a hands-free power liftgate; LED lights; and 19-inch wheels. The only optional equipment on our test car was the Ultimate Tech package ($1550), which bundles some of the more significant driver-assist safety features, namely adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive headlights. So equipped, the Santa Fe Sport has a luxury feel—attractively styled, handsomely appointed, roomy, quiet, and a smooth operator on most roads. Even in top trim, the value proposition is solid. In the world of vehicles wearing “sport” labels, this 2017 Hyundai clocks in as relaxed sporty. Buyers seeking excitement might not find what they’re looking for, but most crossover shoppers will. Read More It’s also hard to love the six-speed automatic transmission. The Santa Fe Sport offers three operating modes—Normal, Eco, and Sport—which alter throttle mapping and shift points. But even in the most aggressive mode, up- and downshifts are deliberate, whether the gearbox is shifting automatically or in response to manual inputs. Speaking of the latter, there are no paddle shifters, either. Price and Value At $40,000 plus, the Santa Fe Sport may seem pricey—until you check the competition. The automaker confirmed that model will get an all-new name. Just like the Korean-market Santa Fe, the crossover bound for the U.S. will receive a Kona-like front end complete with the brand’s signature “Cascading” grille and slender LED headlights. Diamond-cut 19-inch alloy wheels will be available. Hyundai promises the new Santa Fe will offer improved ride comfort and handling thanks to new suspension geometry. The base 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe will offer a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine making an estimated 185 hp. That sounds like the same unit available in the outgoing Santa Fe Sport so expect a similar 178 lb-ft of torque. The upgrade engine will be a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 making an estimated 232 hp, down slightly from the 245 hp that other Hyundais equipped with the 2.0-liter turbo currently make. If buyers want torque, they can always opt for the new 2.2-liter CRDi turbodiesel I-4 that makes about 200 hp at 3,000 rpm and 320 lb-ft at 1,750 rpm. All engines come mated to a new in-house-designed eight-speed automatic transmission and will have the option of HTRAC all-wheel drive. The new Hyundai Santa Fe will get a completely redesigned interior that’s similar to other recent Hyundai models. Base Santa Fes receive a 7.0-inch infotainment screen that includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard, as well as Qi wireless charging. Higher-end models can be ordered with a heads-up display, a 630-watt, 12-speaker Infinity sound system. Though buyers will have to step up to the Santa Fe XL if they need three rows, the diesel Santa Fe will offer an optional “occasional-use” third row. Expect pricing to be announced closer to the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe’s launch this summer.
